Two searches bring people here: "glass bottom boat Hervey Bay" and "Hervey Bay lunch cruise". The honest answer is that the glass-bottom boat does not serve lunch. Milbi, run by Hervey Bay Eco Marine Tours, is the bay's only glass-bottom boat by its operator's account. Its trips come with morning or afternoon tea, or prawns at sunset. The trips that do serve lunch are whale cruises and K'gari (Fraser Island) boat days. If you want to look under the water on a whale trip, some whale boats have underwater viewing windows, which are the nearest thing to a glass bottom. Glass bottom, underwater window or lunch: the four choices
Each trip below gives you one thing well: a glass floor, a window in the hull, a meal with whales, or a meal on a K'gari beach. None gives you all of them. Pick the one that matters most. The whale options run only from mid-July to late October. The K'gari half day runs from November to May, the remote K'gari day runs all year, and the glass-bottom boat's dates are on its booking calendar.

Milbi is a purpose-built glass-bottom boat. Eco Marine calls it "Hervey Bay's only glass-bottom vessel and one of the largest of her kind in Australia", with large viewing panels in the hull. Its name is the Butchulla word for sea turtle. It is surveyed for 38 passengers, but the operator takes no more than 28. It leaves from Fisherman's Wharf Marina on Jetty Road, Urangan, not from the main whale-boat marina.

The day trips visit Round Island (Weenandin), Pelican Banks and Big Woody Island, depending on the tide, with time ashore to swim. Turtle Discovery includes snorkel gear. Set your expectations for what is under the glass. Hervey Bay is a sheltered marine-park bay, not part of the Great Barrier Reef. The operator talks of fish habitats and "coral gardens" and also says it "cannot guarantee what you will see". There is a small marine toilet on board with no disabled access, and no baby-change table.

Underwater viewing windows on whale boats
From mid-July to late October, the main way to look below the surface in Hervey Bay is from a whale boat with windows in the hull. It is not a glass bottom. You go down to a viewing room below the waterline and look out sideways, and it is only worth it when a whale swims close to the boat.
- Tasman Venture's half-day whale watch lists an "underwater viewing window", an onboard hydrophone for hearing whale song and a water-level viewing platform. It runs 4 hours at 8:30 am or 1:30 pm, with two light meals: morning or afternoon tea going out and an antipasto-style platter coming back. - Spirit of Hervey Bay, a 24 m catamaran, has "two underwater viewing areas", one in each hull, plus a waterline platform. Its half-day adult voucher is A$155 on spiritofherveybay.com. GetYourGuide also lists a 4-hour half-day with underwater viewing windows at A$155 (★4.9, 76 reviews). The operator of that listing is not confirmed.

Only some whale trips include a real meal, and they are the longer or pricier ones. All leave from the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Urangan. The exact check-in point is on your voucher.

Whalesong is the natural first pick. The 16.4 m motor catamaran takes at most 75 on whale trips, has a wheelchair ramp and an accessible toilet, and includes a meal on both departures. Whalesong says it is "the only half day Whale Watch boat tour in Hervey Bay to include meals", which is its own claim. Tasman's platter is a light meal, not lunch. Whalesong's published direct fares are A$160 adult and A$90 child (4–14), though the operator still labels them as last season's. Freedom and Blue Dolphin make lunch part of a longer, slower day. Freedom III carries up to 48 and serves a buffet lunch, usually hot chicken, deli meats and salads. From November, most whale boats stop, and lunch on the water means a trip to K'gari's quiet west coast:

Urangan Pier: what to do before or after your cruise
No cruise leaves from Urangan Pier, but it is in Urangan like the marinas and makes a free walk before or after your trip. Fraser Coast Regional Council gives its length as 868 m. It opened in 1917 and was built to export sugar, coal and timber. The original pier was 1,124.7 m including the head, which was taken down in 1985. Caltex used it as an oil terminal until 1974, and a "Save the Pier" campaign saved it in 1985. The council has since finished an A$1.43 million refurbishment with new timber, railings and heritage features, and the pier is open again.
Today it is a land-based fishing platform. Visit Fraser Coast lists whiting, flathead and garfish close in, and mackerel, tuna, trevally and queenfish in the outer channel. The coastal Recreation Pathway runs along the Esplanade, and a separate corridor follows the old pier rail line inland. Lunch ashore by the pier and a 3-hour Milbi trip fit easily into one day.
Want coral under the glass? Lady Elliot Island
If you picture a glass-bottom boat over coral, that trip is a flight away, not in Hervey Bay. The Lady Elliot Island day trip from Hervey Bay/Fraser Coast Airport includes a return scenic flight of about 40 minutes and a "glass-bottom boat/guided snorkel tour". It also includes snorkel gear, a hot and cold buffet lunch and about seven hours on a coral cay at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. It costs A$595 adult and A$445 child on ladyelliot.com.au. That is a lot more than a bay cruise, but it is the one trip from Hervey Bay we know of that gets you both a glass-bottom boat and lunch. Whalesong's cruise includes a meal, and its free-return policy covers you if no whales turn up. Milbi is the only glass-bottom boat in the bay by its operator's account, and no trip combines the two. From November, lunch on the water moves to the K'gari beach cruise or the full remote K'gari day.
Skip it if you want to see coral through a glass floor. Hervey Bay is not a coral reef. For that, fly to Lady Elliot Island, where the day trip includes a glass-bottom boat or guided snorkel.
