Enzo's on the Beach is a name that still turns up when people search for kayak hire in Hervey Bay. Here is where things stand: Enzo's is a beachside restaurant and bar, and it no longer hires kayaks or stand-up paddleboards. It is still open on the Scarness beachfront, at 351A Esplanade, serving from 6:30 am daily. But nothing on its current website offers beach hire, and older guides that say otherwise are out of date.
This page explains what changed, where you can hire a kayak or paddleboard today, and which guided paddles are worth your money. We are an independent guide, not Enzo's, and we do not review food.
What happened to Enzo's kayak and SUP hire
The old Enzo's website had a "beach hire" page and a gallery of stand-up paddleboarding. Archived copies of those pages run from 2008 to 2016. The current site lists menus (full, specials, kids and functions), opening hours from 6:30 am daily, live music, gift cards, terms and online table bookings. There is no hire page, no hire price and no hire booking.
We did not find a public notice explaining when or why hire stopped, and we will not guess. What matters for your trip is simple: if you walk down to Enzo's expecting a board, there will not be one.
Enzo's on the Beach in Hervey Bay today
Enzo's is on the Esplanade at Scarness, one of the beach suburbs that run west to east along the bay: Point Vernon, Pialba, Scarness, Torquay and Urangan. The venue's homepage promotes Sunday afternoon live music sessions from 3–6 pm, and it takes bookings online.

We have not collected Google or Tripadvisor scores and do not quote reviews we cannot link, so we make no call on the food. If you plan to eat there, check the menus and hours on the venue's own site.
On prices, the only ones this page can speak to are hire prices, and there are none at Enzo's any more. Anything you read elsewhere quoting an Enzo's kayak or SUP rate is from the old hire service and no longer applies. The live alternatives below carry their own prices, and we show where each comes from: the hire business's own booking page, or GetYourGuide.
One practical point for any paddle off the Esplanade: go early. The Queensland Government's whale-watching advice says calm conditions are most likely in the morning, before the wind picks up, and Bureau of Meteorology averages for Hervey Bay put the mean 3 pm wind at 21–22 km/h from November to March. Aquavue's 9 am–2 pm hire window fits that pattern.
Where to hire a kayak or SUP instead
The one beach hire on the Esplanade that we could verify is Aquavue, the beachfront bar and eatery at 415a Esplanade, Torquay, a short way east of Enzo's along the same beachfront:

Hire runs Friday to Sunday, 9 am–2 pm, and every day in Queensland school holidays, weather permitting. It is dry hire: a safety briefing and a life jacket, no lesson. Under-18s need an adult to sign.
Directories also list a "Kayak Hire Hervey Bay" on Charlton Esplanade and a "Hervey Bay Stand Up Paddle" page on Facebook. Neither had a live website we could check, so we cannot confirm either is trading. Ring ahead before you plan a morning around them.
Guided paddling: what to book instead of Enzo's
If you would rather paddle with a guide than on your own, there are two bookable options. Neither is linked to Enzo's; both are different businesses.
- Remote K'gari (Fraser Island) by boat. Tasman Venture's full day from Urangan crosses to K'gari's quiet west coast, with guided kayaking up a creek, snorkelling and a beach stop. It is A$269 with lunch on GetYourGuide. Tasman Venture says the route changes daily with the tides. Our remote west coast guide runs through the day.
- Kayaking with dolphins at Rainbow Beach. Epic Ocean Adventures pairs a beach 4WD drive with a paddle off Rainbow Beach, looking for dolphins, turtles and rays. It is A$149 for 3 hours on GetYourGuide. It is a long way south of Hervey Bay, so plan it as a stop on the coastal drive, not a morning out.

Other easy things near Scarness
If what you really wanted was an easy hour by the water, the Esplanade has more to offer than a hire shed. The coastal Recreation Pathway runs about 15 km along the foreshore, so a cruiser bike from Aquavue covers a good stretch of it. Can I see whales or dolphins from a kayak off Scarness?
Enzo's does not run whale trips. Humpbacks rest mainly out in the bay towards Platypus Bay, off K'gari, well away from the Scarness beach. Queensland's rules also treat a kayak as a boat: stay 100 m from a whale and 50 m from a dolphin. For whales, book a whale watching trip from mid-July to late October.
Is there an Enzo's on the Beach discount?
Enzo's sells gift cards on its website, but we found no published discount code, and there is no hire to discount any more. The paddling alternatives are sold at the operators' own prices; on GetYourGuide, prices are the listed per-person fares.
